DHAKA: Bangladesh is considered as one of the accident-prone countries in the world. It also witnessed a number of tragic accidents in waterways apart from casualties from fire incidents and building collapse round the year.
Some major accidents took place in 2013 are:
Apr 13: Driver of MP among 2 killed in Moulvibazar
Two people, including driver of a local lawmaker, were killed as their jeep collided head-on with a bus at Sreemangal upazila in Moulvibazar district on.
Apr 24: Rana Plaza Collapse
The collapse of an eight-story warren of garment factories killed 1,127 workers in Bangladesh.
It served as a horrific reminder of the poor conditions that define an essential industry, which employs about four million people in Bangladesh. The disaster forced discussions, domestically and internationally, of reform in factories that supply major retailers across Europe and America.
July 27: MP Tulu dies in road crash
Awami League Lawmaker of Barguna-2 Golam Sabur Tulu was killed in a road accident in Vanga of Faridpur on July 27.
Aug 3: Ex MP among 6 killed in Munshiganj
Six people, including former Awami League lawmaker Hemayet Ullah Aworanga, were killed and two others injured in a road crash in Munshiganj on August 3.
Sep 14: Boat capsize kill 3
At least three people were killed and 35 people went missing as a boat capsized in Godagari of Rajshahi on.
Oct 5: Couple among 5 killed in Tangail
At least five people, including a couple, were killed and six others injured in two separate road accidents on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Charpara area of Mirzapur upzaila in Tangai district on October 5.
Oct 8: Garments fire killed 9
At least nine people were killed and 30 others injured in devastating fire at Asowad Garment in Sreepur of Gazipur on.
Oct 16: 5 killed in Sylhet
Five people were killed and another one injured critically as a passenger bus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sylhet district on October 16.
Oct 30: Women among 7 killed in Dhaka,
Seven people including a woman were killed and 50 others injured in a triangular collision between two buses and a truck on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Joypura Bus Stand of Dhamrai upzaila in Dhaka on October, 30.
Nov 9: 8 killed in Comilla,
Eight people were killed and eight others injured in a road accident in Mainamati area of Comilla district on November 9.
Nov 14: 6 killed in Cox’s Bazar,
Six people were killed and 23 others injured in a road accident in Ukhia Upazila in Cox’s Bazar on November 14.
