‘Clean Our Country Day’ on Dec 31

DHAKA: December 31 will be marked as “Clean Our Country Day” in a bid to encourage cleanliness and protect the environment.

A voluntary organisation ‘Poriborton Chai’ arranged a press conference at National Press Club in city Wednesday afternoon.

‘Poriborton Chai’ will clean city streets, parks, rivers and open spaces from 11:00am to 1:00pm as a part of their call to keep localities clean.

The organization has also invited people from all walks of life to take part in the program by cleaning their surroundings and making a promise not to litter the surroundings in future.

Country’s leading online news portal banglanews24.com and Ittefaque, New Age, Channel-i and Radio Foorti have joined in the program with ‘Poriborton Chai’ as media partners.

‘Poriborton Chai’ chairman Fida Haque, in the press conference, said Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur were known as the worst cities in the world to live in. If the condition did not change, the whole country would become unlivable soon.

Advocate Nahid Sultana said it was not possible to clean the whole country in a day but the awareness that the program aims to build among people is very important.

‘Poriborton Chai’ advisor Fawzia Khan said, “We throw garbage anywhere we wish. A little bit of awareness is enough to keep our surroundings clean.”

Speakers also said this will be an open program and anyone can join there.

They also urged individuals or organizations to share photos on their facebook page, fb.com/events/1515714321978725/, on participating in the program.
