CHITTAGONG: Leading online news portal of the country Banglanews have organized a roundtable on the ongoing public sufferings in Chittagong and ways to overcome it, at Radisson Blu Chittagong Bay View hotel Sunday (August 27).

The discussion titled ‘Chittagong on the Highway of Development: Public Sufferings, Coordination and To-Do’s’, started at around 10:45am.   

Banglanews Editor-in-Chief Alamgir Hossain and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin were among the key speakers at the discussion.

Daily Suprobhat Bangladesh Editor Rusho Mahmud, Chittagong Chamber President Mahbubul Alam, Chittagong Additional Commissioner Debdas Bhattacharya, WASA engineer Abul Mansur, Delwar Mazumder, Ekushey Televission Residential Editor Rafiqul Bahar, Agrabad Women’s College Principal Anwara Begum, PHP Family Director Jahirul Islam Rinku were among others attended the discussion.

Banglanews Chittgaong Bureau Editor Tapan Chakrabarty said in the keynote speech, “The most-discussed crisis of Chittagong in recent times is—Water-logging. Chittagong city gets inundated not only by excessive rainfall but also in the tidewater.”

“Media reports suggest that 75% roads of the city damaged in the heavy rainfall this season, and turned unfit for plying vehicle”, he said. 

Though CCC, Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), WASA and Chittagong Port authority are doing the development works but there is a lack of cooperation in the schemes, he added. 

However, the speakers at the roundtable said that they are trying to pave a way which can lead the respective authorities to solve the ongoing problems in the port city.
