Labor ministry calls urgent talks

DHAKA: The Ministry for Labor and Employment affairs convened an urgent meeting with workers’ leaders of readymade garments industries to fix next steps to resolve the ongoing unrest in the sector.

The meeting will be held at the conference room of the ministry at secretariat around 3:00pm Wednesday.

Public relations officer of the ministry SM Arifuzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

With Labor Minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu in the chair, the meeting will also be attended by state minister for labor and employment affairs Munnujan Sufian and representatives from RMG owners-workers and law enforcement agencies.

For last couple of days, readymade garment workers have been staging demonstrations to press home their one-point demand—salary hike.

Centering the protest, many violent incidents have been occurred in industrials hubs.

To fix next steps to resolve the crisis, the concerned groups are going to be held the meeting.

A total of 54 workers’ organizations were asked to join the talks.
