Govt will take initiatives for development of gold industry

Prime Minister's Adviser on Private Industries and Investments Salman F Rahman said that the government will sincerely look into the issue of establishing gold ornaments factories in the country and creating export opportunities abroad by meeting the local demand of gold ornaments.

He said this while meeting a delegation of Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) on Tuesday (January 30).

The 11-member delegation led by the spokesperson and former president of BAJUS Dilip Kumar Roy held the meeting with Salman F Rahman.

Dilip Kumar Roy, end of the meeting, said, “We requested to the Prime Minister's adviser to take necessary initiatives to prevent gold smuggling and develop the gold industry in the country.”

“The price of gold in the country's market is determined in line with the international standards, for that reason we demanded to make the tax-VAT similar to the neighbouring countries,” he said.

BAJUS also urged to take all possible measures for the development of gold industry.

In response, Salman F Rahman said that taking all initiatives for the development of the gold industry according to the gold policy is one of the priorities of Smart Bangladesh announced by the Prime Minister.

He assured the BAJUS delegation that steps will be taken accordingly.

The Prime Minister's adviser also agreed to attend the BAJUS fair to be held on February 8, 9 and 10 as the chief guest.
