SAVAR: Trouble-ridden three factories of Nasa Group at Ashulia here reopened Monday after four days of closure following labor unrest.

But, about 500 workers remained absent in their work places on the first day of opening to avoid arrest following filing of a case by the garments management.

Workers of Nasa Global, Nasa Hi-teck and Nasa Basic joined their works in the morning under tight security of Rab and police.

Lt Col (Retd) Mosaddek Hossain, director of Nasa Global told banglanews24.com.bd “We have opened the factory ensuring the production atmosphere. I hope the workers will discharge their duties under a peaceful environment”.

Referring to the less attendance of workers, Lt Col (Retd) Golam Mohiuddin, director of the Group, said most of those who did not join work were the accused of the case, filed by the authority.

Meanwhile, workers of Nasa AJ Super joined their work on Sunday morning.

Three factories of the group—Nasa Global, Nasa Hi-tech and Nasa Basic—were closed Thursday in the wake of labour unrest and vandalism while the management declared one-day holiday in the Nasa AJ Super factory on Saturday.

On Wednesday, some 4,000 workers of Nasa Group in Nischintapur area staged demonstrations to press their demands, including resignation of seven officers and withdrawal of the cases filed earlier against the workers during the period of massive labour unrest in Ashulia in June.

Later on Thursday, at least 40 people, including RAB and police personnel and garment workers, were injured in a clash that erupted in the Nasa precincts. At one stage, the workers allegedly ransacked three factories.

Following the incident, Nasa Group authorities Friday suspended 109 workers and sued 619 others of their three garment factories in tough punitive actions on charges of vandalism.

Ashulia thana OC Sirajul Islam told the news agency that the situation is now under control.

“But police and Rab have been kept alert to avoid any untoward situation in the industrial zone here”.
