BB asks for CSR expenditure info

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued letters to the managing directors of four state owned commercial banks asking to submit detailed information of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expenditures from July 2013 to June 2014.

The letters, signed by BB Deputy-director Kazi Mutmainna Tahmida, were sent to Janata Bank Ltd, Agrani Bank Ltd, Rupali Bank Ltd and Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd (BDBL).

The information, including the application by the beneficiaries, approval copy, documents related to CSR project, documents of releasing the money and reports on implementation of CSR project, must reach within September 11.

Earlier on August 28, Finance Ministry issued a prohibitionary order to spend large amount of money under CSR projects by the board of directors on allegations of its negative impact on the capital of the bank and over all provisioning of the bank.
