BB releasing Tk 24,000cr new notes Sunday

DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank is all set to release new notes of Tk 24 thousands crores on Sunday ahead of the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, second largest religious festival of Muslims.

The notes will be available at selected branches of state-owned and commercial banks from Sunday.

General people will be able to exchange the old notes with the new ones at some 24 branches – four brunches of Bangladesh Bank (BB) and 20 branches of commercial banks – across Dhaka city.

In Dhaka city, the list of the branches include Abdul Goni and New Market branches of Janata Bank Limited, Ramna and Elephant Road branches of Sonali Bank Limited, Sadarghant branch of Pubali Bank Limited, Mohakhali branch of Rupali Bank, Maligabh and Mirpur branches of Prime Bank, Jatrabari branch of National Bank Limited, Shyamoli branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Banani branch of Mercantile Bank Limited, Karwan Bazar branch of Southeast Bank  Limited, Chawkbazar branch of Uttara Bank Limited, Basabo branch of One Bank Limited, Bashundhara City branch of Social Islami Bank Limited (SIBL), Gulshan branch of International Finance Investment and Commerce Bank Limited (IFIC), Dhanmondi branch of Bank Asia Limited and Uttara branch of Dhaka Bank Limited, and SME and Krishi branches of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) at Dakkhin Khan.

Outside the city, the notes will be available at five BB’s special counters each of Chittagong, Khulna, and Sylhet cities and three each of Barisal, Rangpur, and Rajshahi regions.

A person will be allowed to exchange Tk 5 thousands in maximum by taking a bundle of Tk 20 and Tk 10 notes each, three bundle of Tk 5 note, a bundle of Tk 2 note, and 100 coins of Tk 5, Tk 2, and Tk 1 each.

The central bank released new notes ahead of the Eid every year.
