DHAKA: The South Korea government will provide Tk 1000 crore as soft loan to build Multi-Disciplinary and Specialized Hospital under Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in city.

A joint Memorandum of Declaration (MoD) was signed between Bangladesh and South Korea in Dr Milon Hall of the BSMMU on Thursday noon.

Economic Relations Department (ERD) additional secretary M Asif-uz-Zaman, health and family welfare ministry joint secretary Mosarraf Hossain and BSMMU vice-chancellor Dr Pran Gopal Datta were present on behalf of Bangladesh while South Korea’s Exim Bank director Ta Ung Lee was present on behalf of his country.

The MoD said South Korea government, through their Exim Bank, will give the loan for 40-year with easy terms.
 
In this specialized hospital, treatments will be provided to several major diseases.

High-ranking research works will also be conducted to invent the treatment process for which people usually go abroad.

Emphasizing the project, South Korea’s Exim Bank director said his country felt proud to participate in the project in health sector.

Dr Pran Gopal Dutta said BSMMU will take short time to implement the project as usually it takes from 2 to 3 years.

Korean Appraisal Mission chief representative Lee Young, Exim Bank senior consultant Kong Sun Min and project director Dr Zulfikar Rahman Khan, among others, were present in the signing ceremony.
