Bangladesh exporting food-grains to Sri Lanka

JHALKHATHI: Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu claimed that Bangladesh has become a self-sufficient country in production of food-grains after the Awami League-led government came to power in 2009.

The country is now exporting food-grains to Sri Lanka after fulfilling the domestic demand.

Amu came to this assertion while delivering speech as chief guest in a Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) rice distribution program in Nalchhiti Union Parishad of the district on Sunday.

The minister said World Trade Organization (WTO) awarded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a gold medal for achieving self-sufficiency in food production.

We signed a deal to export one lakh tons of food-grains from Bangladesh and the export processes have begun.

District AL president and also district parishad administrator M Shah Alam, Jhalkathi UP chairman M Sultan Hossain Khan and Nalchhiti UP chairman Advocate Yunis Laskar, among others, were present at the program chaired by Nalchhiti municipality acting mayor Farukh Hossain.
