Tofail reaches Melbourne on 5-day visit

AUSTRALIA: Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed reached Melbourne on Tuesday on a five-day visit to Australia.

The high-ups of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Export Association (BGMEA) received him at the airport and arranged dinner in his honour.

During the visit, the minister will participate in a seminar titled ‘Global Garments Industry after Rana Plaza: The Way Found’.

School of Management of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Centre for Sustainable Organisation and Works (CSOW), the European Centre, Bangladesh High Commission to Canberra and BGMEA have jointly organised the seminar.

Besides, the minister also addressed another seminar at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition RMG forum and called upon the Australian buyers, importers, consumer and other stakeholders of Bangladeshi garments not to take any propaganda against the RMG sector of Bangladesh into account.

He also advised them to visit the RMG factories of Bangladesh to experience the recent progress in this sector.

Tofail is also expected to call upon his Australian counterpart.

He is scheduled to return on November 23.
