ECNEC nods 5 projects of Tk 18,404cr

DHAKA: Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved five projects involving Tk 18,404 crore.

The approval came from a meeting at NEC Conference Room at the Planning Commission in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of the city with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Of the amount, the government will provide Tk 14,212 crore and the rest Tk 4,191 crore will come as project aid from donor and development organizations.

Among the projects, four are new and one is revised.

Cabinet members and high level government officials attended the ECNEC meeting.

After the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal briefed the journalists.

He said that it is a good sign that government’s financing is decreasing day by day due to increase of project aid. Of the total aid, Tk 2,606 crore is loan and Tk 1,586 crore is grant.

Development organizations, including Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Development Association (IDA), Australian Aid, Canadian SIDA, Department for International Development (DFID) of UK, European Union (EU) ,     Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency  (SIDA), Global Partnership for Education (GPE), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), will provide the grant money, he added.
