DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Monday put emphasis on new tax payers in realizing revenue in the 2015-16 fiscal year.

The minister was talking to journalists at the conference room of National Board of Revenue in city in the afternoon.

Earlier, Muhith directed the NBR officials about realizing the estimated amount of revenue in the 2015-16FY.

He informed that NBR has found almost two folded new tax payers in Dhaka and districts around it.

Mentioning that currently 11 lakh individuals and organizations pay taxes, the minister talked about “attacking” new tax payers to realize the revenue goal.

In the national budget of 2015-16FY, Finance Minister Muhith fixed Tk 65,932-crore, around Tk 10,0000-crore more than the previous fiscal year, as revenue goal.

He said NBR was capable to realize the goal.

He also talked about continuing the hunt to find people capable of paying taxes.

The minister also said rich people were living at upazila level also. He also talked about establishing NBR offices in all upazilas by 2018.

“We did not increase tax rates, only brought new products under the system. However, largest amount of revenue will be realized from income tax and corporate taxes,” he added.
