KFC, Pizza Hut among 51 shops fined Tk 5-lakh

DHAKA: A mobile court on Monday fined Tk 5-lakh to 51 shops, including the KFC and Pizza Hut, for selling expired goods, unhealthy food and packets without maximum retail price (MRP).

The outlets were fined during drives, initiated by National Consumer Rights Protection Department (DNCRP), in separate upazilas and districts including the capital till noon.

Director of DNCRP Matin-ul Haque issued a press release in this regard.

Assisatant Director of DNCRP (main office) Iftekharul Alam Rizvi conducted the drive in Dhanmondi area of the city and fined Ambala Inn owner Tk 60,000, Pizza Hut owner Tk 50,000 and KFC owner Tk 50,000.

Moreover, Assistant Director of Dhaka Divisional Office Atiur Sultana also conducted a drive in Mohammadpur area and fined Tk 25,000 to Hotel Green and Restaurant owner and Tk 28,000 to other three shops owner.

The mobile courts also fined a total of Tk 2.88 lakh to 44 shops in Khulna, Jessore, Chapainawabganj, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Dinajpur, Sylhet, Munshiganj and Maulvibazar districts.

The DNCRP also distributed pamphlets to create awareness among the people.
