1.8-lakh BO accounts shut for not renewing

DHAKA: Some 1.88 lakh Beneficiary Owners (BO) accounts including some companies’ accounts were closed as the account holders did not renew those within June 30.

According to current regulations, the account holders have to pay Tk 500 to brokerage house authority which will be given to the Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) within the given time.

However, CDBL sources said there were 32.23 lakh BO accounts till June 25 which go down to 30.35 lakh.

Among them, 29 lakhs were of general investors, 1.40 lakhs were of expatriate Bangladeshis and 10,299 were company accounts.

CDBL shut the accounts following receiving the list from the Brokerage House Authority of account holders who did not renewed accounts within June 25.
