DHAKA: Bangladesh will purchase daily between 30 and 50 MW electricity from open market of India on the basis of bilateral agreements.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), in a meeting held at the cabinet division on Wednesday, gave nod to the procurement proposal.

"The electricity will be procured from Indian power companies NVVN and PTC," Cabinet Division joint secretary Mustafizur Rahman told reporters after the meeting.

The committee also approved the purchase proposal to set up 22-year term 400 MW IPP power plant in Sirajganj.

If gas is used in production, per unit cost will be Tk 3.188 while per unit cost will be Tk16.569 if the plant uses oil.

The purchase proposal for capital dredging of 53 waterways (24 routes in the first stage) has also been approved at the meeting.

BIWTA under the shipping ministry will implement the work.

Moreover, the cabinet committee has approved purchase proposal for connecting road projects Elenga-Joydevpur-Chandra-Tangail highway expansion and upgradation to four-lane.

Roads and Highways Department will implement the expansion work under South Asia Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation project.

The estimated cost of the project is Tk 2037crore.
