Shahed joins as new GP CHRO on Apr 1

DHAKA: The Grameenphone has named Quazi Mohammad Shahed as the company’s new Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) to replace outgoing CHRO Mohammad Shariful Islam, from 1 April 2017.
 
Quazi Mohammad Shahed has been serving as CHRO at Telenor India. This will be Shahed’s second stint with Grameenphone as its CHRO. He joined Telenor India in August 2015 and came with a multi-country experience of over 28 years. Shahed served British American Tobacco (BAT) within manufacturing and as CHRO in different countries before joining Grameenphone in November 2012. He has worked across geographies, such as Bangladesh, Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia and the UK, in leadership roles in different functions and on global projects. 

Expressing excitement at being back at Grameenphone again, Shahed said that he was “looking forward to coming home and picking up on the excellent work done by Sharif.” Shahed added that his exposure to the rapidly changing business environment in India has equipped him in matching requirements with the right organizational competencies, and sees that his Telenor India experience sets a great tone to taking Grameenphone’s resource capabilities forward.

Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer Petter B Furberg expressed his best wishes to Sharif while welcoming Shahed back. He added, “Sharif’s contribution to Grameenphone with people and organization has placed the company on a strong footing. Shahed has already played an instrumental role in bringing about big changes in Telenor, and I look forward to his guidance GP in our on-going transformation.”

Shahed has earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and holds a Masters degree in Business Administration.

Out-going CHRO, Shariful Islam, who joined Grameenphone in 2006 played key roles in organization development, culture, recruitment & talent management, and HR strategy for GP and Telenor for more than 10 years.  Sharif is leaving GP to pursue career interests in another industry.
