‘Businessmen facing loss due to Ctg port problems’ Banglanews organises a roundtable in Chittagong August 27

CHITTAGONG: Chittagong Chamber President Mahbubul Alam alleged that businessmen are suffering losses due to poor capacity of Chittagong Port.

The port city chamber president expressed his outrage while speaking at a discussion titled ‘Chittagong on the Highway of Development: Public Sufferings, Coordination and To-Do’s’, started at around 10:45am.

The roundtable was organized by Banglanews- leading online news portal of the country, at Radisson Blu Chittagong Bay View hotel Sunday (August 27).

Mahbubul Alam pointed out that two gantry cranes became inoperative two months ago, and yet to be repaired.

However, recently the government has approved the purchase of 6 gantry cranes.

Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, Mahbubul Alam said that the Prime Minister has given many big projects for the development of Chittagong, but proper utilization of these projects should be ensured.

To enhance capacity of the port, he said about establishing a bay-terminal as an alternative to the deep sea port.

Apart from port situations, he attributed the water logging to not dredging of the Karnaphuli River.

Daily Suprobhat Bangladesh Editor Rusho Mahmud, Chittagong Chamber President Mahbubul Alam, Chittagong Additional Commissioner Debdas Bhattacharya, WASA engineer Abul Mansur, Delwar Mazumder, Ekushey Televission Residential Editor Rafiqul Bahar, Agrabad Women’s College Principal Anwara Begum, PHP Family Director Jahirul Islam Rinku were among others attended the discussion.
