Muhith suspicious about Rohingya repatriation Minister Muhith briefs media

DHAKA: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith expressed skepticism about sending back the Rohingya refugees to their homes in Myanmar.

“I’m suspicious about sending back the Rohingyas”, he said.

The minister said that arrangement should be initiated to rehabilitate the Rohingyas in Bhashan Char. Efforts are underway regarding this, he added.

Muhith was talking to the reporters after a meeting with s team of Department for International Development (DFID)-United Kingdom, at his ministry in the secretariat Tuesday (March 6).

“They (Myanmar) are evil government. They (Rohingyas) have to be rehabilitated in the Bhashan Char. An allotment will be fixed in the next budget regarding this. It will be big in size, to some extent”, added Muhith.

The minister further added that there’s no benefit of continuing or discontinuing ties with Myanmar.

However, as many as 7,00000 Rohingyas have taken shelter in Bangladesh after fleeing a violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state in August last year.
