DHAKA: Bangladesh and India have agreed to sign Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to boost trade ties between the two countries.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and his Indian counterpart Suresh Prabhu confirmed it at a joint briefing followed by a bilateral meeting at the state guesthouse Padma in city on Wednesday (September 26).

Besides, India also agreed to accept the Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute (BSTI) certificate.

India has agreed to take necessary steps to uplift anti-dumping duty imposed on jute products. Indian Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu has put forward a proposal of discussion and joint ventures between jute businessmen of the two countries.

Several other decisions were also taken in the meeting. Two ministers said decisions will be announced through a joint briefing in the afternoon.
