Bourses start week on positive note

DHAKA: The prices of most of the shares on both bourses saw gain in trading on Sunday (Jan 6) as enthusiastic investors were on buying spree in sector specific stocks.

Following the previous week’s moderate gains, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed higher with some volatility in the early session.

DSEX, prime index of DSE, went up by 96.53points or 1.72 points to reach 5,687.00 points. Two other indices also saw a positive trend.

Of those, DS30, comprising blue chips, rose 32.10 points or 1.65 per cent to reach at 1,974.09 points, and Shariah index DSES gained 23.98 points or 1.88 per cent to stand at 1,295.34 points.

Turnover, an important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 10,267.67 million.

Of the issues traded, 265 advanced, 62 declined and 19 remained unchanged.

Shares worth Tk 10,267.67 million changed hands at the DSE on the day against Tk 9,249.09 million on Thursday, showing a mentionable increase in daily turnover.

The day’s top 10 gainers at the DSE were JANATAINS, UNITEDINS, APOLOISPAT, DSSL, CVOPRL, EXIM1STMF, ZAHINTEX, ALIF, AL-HAJTEX and DELTASPINN.

The CSE key index, CSCX gained 261.29 points to reach 17,455.43 at the close today.

Of the 261 issues traded, 202 advanced, 53 suffered loss and 18 remained unchanged. The total value of exchange was over Tk 530.14 million on the day.
