DHAKA: The 24th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) kicked off at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in city on Wednesday (January 9).
After inaugurating the month-long fair, President M Abdul Hamid urged business community to come forward with new industries and factories in the country to utilize comparative facilities and explore its potentiality.
He also stressed on taking necessary steps to boost export of jute products, agro products, frozen shrimp, mango and potato.
“Thousands of meritorious youths have passed every year from universities…it is necessary to create job opportunities for them and you have to come forward for their employment” President Hamid added.
Urging local and foreign investors to invest 100 Economic Zones in the country, the President also said businessmen have to concentrate on generating new business ideas, exploring more markets with diversified products. With these, it would be possible to transform the country into developed one.
“We have to enhance our knowledge strategy and skill to grab opportunities in different international forum, including World Trade Organization. For that business platforms and research organizations have to keep more effective contribution”, he added.
A documentary, 'A Canvass of Promise', was screened at the inaugural programme.
After cutting the ribbon at the entrance, the president visited the fair.
Apart from 60 premium pavilions, 60 premium pavilions, 38 premium mini pavilions, 20 reserved pavilions for women, 26 foreign pavilions, 18 general pavilions and 22 food stalls were set up at the fair.
Different organizations from India, Bhutan, Pakistan, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Nepal, Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, the Maldives, Mauritius, Russia, Iran and Swaziland are participating in the fair.
The fair, jointly organized by the Commerce Ministry and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), will remain open for visitors from 10am to 10 pm until February 8.
The entry fee, Tk 30 for adults and Tk 20 for underage, has been fixed.
Secretaries to Bangabhaban were also present at the programme with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi in the chair.
