Stocks end higher on both bourses

DHAKA: Stocks ended positive for the second consecutive session Wednesday (Jan 9) on the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- with increased turnover against previous session.

The DSE General Index (DGEX) ended at 5,798.59 points, adding 27.81 points or 0.10 per cent following active participation from investors as they were on buying mood.

The total turnover value on DSE stood at Tk 10,257.35 million at the end of the day's trading session, which was Tk 10,100.32 million in the previous session.

The two other indices also edged higher. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 7.92 points or 0.60 per cent to close at 1,315.98.

The DS30 comprising blue chips went up by 9.93 points or 0.49 per cent to close at 2,011.11.

Of the issues traded on the DSE, 148 declined, 161 advanced and 37 remained unchanged. 

Olympic Industries Ltd topped the turnover leaders with 78.14 million shares worth Tk 359.21 million traded.

United Insurance Ltd was also the biggest gainer of the day, posting 9.97 percent rise in its share prices, while Sunlife Insurance Company Ltd was the worst loser, dropping by 9.05percent.

The port city bourse CSE also closed higher today. CSCX & CASPI increased by 45.9 & 71.7 points respectively.
