DSE, CSE end flat after early gains

DHAKA: The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) surrendered their early gains to close on negative note on Monday (Jan 14) as investors were on selling spree in late hours.

The DSE benchmark index, DSEX lost 23.98 points or 0.40 percent to reach 5,836.23 points at the closing of the day’s trading.

Of the issues traded on the day, 112 gained, 202 declined and 21 remained unchanged.

Shares worth Tk 11,463.23 million changed hands in the second trading session of the week.

Olympic Industries Ltd topped the turnover leaders with 14.58 million shares worth Tk 395.85 million traded.

United Finance Ltd was also the biggest gainer of the day, posting 10 percent rise in its share prices, while Usmania Glass Sheet Factory Ltd was the worst loser, dropping by 10.04 percent.    

Similarly, the CSE Overall Share Index, CASPI increased 2.32 percent to stand at 17,707.78 points.

Of the 275 issues traded, 94 advanced, 157 suffered and 24 remained unchanged.

Shares worth Tk 362.20 million were traded on the day.
