DSE, CSE see fall Wednesday

DHAKA: Stocks witnessed a marginal fall on both the bourses-Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) on Wednesday, the fourth trading session of the week. 

The benchmark index of the DSE, DSEX went down by 23.79 points to settle at 5839 on the day though the turnover slipped to Tk 10,005 million from the previous day’s turnover  Tk 11,393 million.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also witnessed a loss of 7.90 point to finish at 1,322.71. However, The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost a fractional 11.80 points to close at 2,017.

Khulna Power Company Limited topped the turnover leaders with 40.75 million shares worth Tk 283.19 million traded.

The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of issues traded, 185 closed lower while 123 higher and 37 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Top five gainers were EASTERNINS, KARNAPHULI, TAKAFULINS, AGRANINS and UNITEDINS. RUPALIINS,    TAKAFULINS, EASTERNINS, BSC and DAFODILCOM were the top losers.

The port city bourse - the Chittagong Stock Exchange - (CSE) also ended lower with CSE Overall Share Index- CAPSI- declining 0.32 percent to finish at 17,900.

Losers beat gainers as 271 issues were traded, 90 closed higher while 153 lower on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 11.92 million shares and mutual fund units worth Tk. 361.33 million in turnover.
