DSE turnover hits 16-month high

DHAKA:  With active participation of investors, the daily turnover value at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday (Jan 27) crossed Tk 11.99 billion, the highest in over 16 months.

The trade value at DSE increased to Tk 11.98 billion (11985.72 million) from the previous session’s Tk 10.37 billion (Tk 10375.71 million).

It was the highest turnover since Tk 15.08 billion (Tk1,5087.39 million) on September 19, 2017.

Though turnover hits high, the main bourse of the country observed a bearish session today amid investors’ selling splurge on Bank.

The market started on an optimistic note and the key index rose about 41 points within 30 minutes of trading but couldn’t sustain in later session

The broader DSEX of the DSE started the week with 10.55 points down at 5,939.45. The blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 5.47points up at 2,043.52.

However, the Shariah DSES with 0.65 points up at 1,322.26.

Out of the issues traded at the DSE, 162 issues gained, 159 issues declined and 26 remained unchanged.

The top five gainers of the day were EHL, KDSALTD, PRIMEINSU, PROVATIINS and EASTLAND.

The major losing issues of the week were EMERALDOIL, BDAUTOCA, KAY&QUE, JUTESPINN and JMISMDL.

The top five turnover leaders were Premier Bank, Eastern Housing, United Power Generation & Distribution Company, United Finance and Dhaka Bank.

The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – declining 0.27 percent to settle at 18,215.79.

The gainers beat the losers as 146 issues ended higher, 111 lower and 23 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse traded 20.97 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk. 536.57 million in turnover.
