DSE, CSE end lower Monday

DHAKA: Stocks ended lower on the bourses Monday (Jan 28), the second trading session of the week, with turnover decreased from the previous session.

Turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the main bourse of the country, has reached Tk 10.09 billon today, marking a decrease from previous session’s Tk 11.98 billion on Sunday.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 35.22 points or 0.59 per cent to close at 5,904.22.

However, the two other indices edged higher. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also advanced 7.18 points or 0.54 per cent to close at 1,329.44.

The DS30 comprising blue chips rose over 3.24 points or 0.15 per cent to close at 2,046.77 points.

Of the issues traded on the DSE, 105 advanced, 213 declined and 27 remained unchanged.

United Power Generation and Distribution Company Limited was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 489.97 million changing hands followed by Grameenphone, Eastland Insurance Company, Square Pharmatuticals and Premier Bank.

Asia Insurance Limited was also the day's top gainer, posting a rise of 10 per cent while Agrani Insurance Co Ltd was the day's worst loser, posting a decline of 9.83 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with the Overall Share Index of the CSE declined 0.39 points to close at 18,144 points.

Of the 279 issues traded on the DSE, 87 advanced, 170 declined and 22 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse traded 14.64 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 388.60 million in turnover.
