Both DSE, CSE end lower Tuesday

DHAKA:  Stocks ended lower on the bourses Tuesday (Feb 26), the third trading session of the week, with turnover decreased from the previous session.

Turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the main bourse of the country, has reached at Tk 6,794.57 million today, marking a significant decrease from previous session’s Tk 7,182.46 million on Monday.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 17.15 points or 0.29 per cent to close at 5,738.64.

The two other indices also edged lower. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also declined 0.22 points or 0.01 per cent to close at 1,319.72.

The DS30 comprising blue chips shed over 2.33 points or 0.11 per cent to close at 2,014.40 points.

Of the issues traded on the DSE, 113 advanced, 194 declined and 39 remained unchanged.

Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 399.91 million changing hands.

Takaful Islami Insurance Ltd was also the day's top gainer, posting a rise of 9.86 per cent while Emerald Oil Industries Ltd was the day's worst loser, posting a decline of 9.90 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with CASPI, the Overall Share Index, declined 58.68 percent to close at 17,534.60 points.

Of the 269 issues traded on the DSE, 75 advanced, 164 declined and 30 remained unchanged on the port city bourse.

A sum of 60.44 million shares and mutual fund units has been traded, generating turnover of Tk 203.47 million.
