346-mound expired meat, 110-mound sweets seized

DHAKA: Some 346 mounds of date-expired meat and 110 mounds of sweets were seized from a cold storage of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) in the airport area of the capital.

Members of Department of Livelihood, representative of Fisheries Department and Rapid Action Battalion-1 (Rab), led by executive magistrate Sarwar Alam, conducted a drive here till Monday (April 1) midnight, starting from afternoon. 

While talking to Banglanews, Sarwar Alam said, in the joint drive, 345 mound of meat and 110 mounds of pounds of sweet have been seized from BADC silo.

These meat and sweets have been kept in the cold storage for Pohela Boishakh. Some packets are tagged with China, but they are from India. But it’s not clear whether those meats are of cow, buffalo, goat or pork.

Sarwar Alam also said that during the drive, five companies including Alibaba Sweets have been fined Tk 41 lakh.
