ACC identifies 22 corruption sources in Titas

DHAKA: As many as 22 factors in Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd are responsible for corruption, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said in a recent report.

ACC Commissioner Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan submitted the report to State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu on Wednesday (April 17).

An ACC team made the report through conducting thorough investigation in Titas.

In making the report, the team had discussions with current employees and retired employees of Titas and those have observation on operation of the country’s largest natural gas distributor.

The team also analyzed news paper reports and claims of sufferer customers.

As mentioned in the report, some of the 22 possible sources of corruption in Titas are—illegal gas connection, reluctance for new connections, restoring illegal connections, not taking legal step against illegal ones, not following gas connection policy, meter tempering, issuing extra boiler and generator gas connections, meter bypass, showing intentional system loss in gas supply, not installing EVC (Electronic Volume Corrector) etc.

The ACC team also made a set of 12-point recommendations to prevent the corruption, said Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan.    

State minister Nasrul Hamid Bipu lauded the ACC report and said proper action will be taken following findings of the anti-graft body. 

ACC, however, conducted similar investigation to identify corruption sources in more 24 state organizations.
