DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (May 25) said the size of the budget of fiscal year 2019-20 will be over Tk 5 lakh crore.

Tk 4 lakh 64 thousand crore budget has been placed in the current fiscal year, she said.

"We’ll place the new budget on June 13 in Jatiya Sangsad Insha Allah and its size will be over Taka five lakh crore," added the premier.

Sheikh Hasina was hosting an iftar party for the leaders of different political parties at her state residence Ganabhaban.

The prime minister mentioned that when the Awami League formed government in 1996, the size of the budget was only Tk 61,000 crore.

We’ve framed Tk 2 lakh crore development budget in the next fiscal, she added.

Sheikh Hasina expressed her firm determination to take Bangladesh to the level of developed country.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Deputy opposition leader in Jatiya Sangsad Rowshan Ershad, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Presidium members Sheikh Selimm and Matia Chowdhury and Jatiya Party Acting Chairman GM Quader, among others, were present.
