JAKARTA: Bangladesh and Indonesia have signed an agreement to accelerate the import and export of both the countries, which will have various benefits including lower tariffs.

Indonesian Vice-President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla inaugurated the Indonesia International Trade Expo in Jakarta at 10:30 am (Indonesia local time) on Wednesday (Oct 16).

At the inauguration of Trade Expo, the Indonesian Vice-President said that the precondition for maintaining good relations among the countries in the world is to maintain trade relations between each other.

"Our goal is that we can carry out peaceful trade activities, even in the current trade war between China and the United States," he said.

He said that the agreement signed between Indonesia and Bangladesh will accelerate the import and export of both the countries, which will have various benefits including lower tariffs.

Countries, including Morocco, Iran, the UE, Turkey, Tunisia, will come under the agreement, he said.

Exporters from Bangladesh, India, Nepal as well as Europe, America, Africa and other countries have participated in the expo.

Earlier, the country's trade minister, Indonesian Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita gave the welcome address. 

The Vice President presented the award to the respective organizations of 50 countries including Bangladesh for their special contribution to the import and export. 

Islam Motors has received the award from Bangladesh.

South Korea's Commerce Minister, Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Bangladesh Ambassador to Indonesia Maj. Gen. Ajmal Kabir, OSP, PSC and Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Rina Sumarano were present at the Trade Expo.
