Bashundhara City Shopping Mall will not reopen now

DHAKA: Bashundhara City Shopping Mall authorities have decided not to reopen it from May 10 in an attempt to curb the spread of the new coronavirus.

The decision was taken as per the instruction of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.

Confirming the news, Mohammad Abu Tayeb, adviser of Bashundharar Group, said that the market will remain closed until the coronavirus situation improves in the country.

Earlier, the national technical advisory committee on Covid-19 recommended reconsidering the government's decision of reopening shopping malls and other businesses, saying such a move could lead to further transmission of the deadly coronavirus.

It also recommended that all decisions should be taken on the basis of opinions from epidemiologists.

Earlier, the government allowed shops and malls to remain open till 4pm from May 10 maintaining health guidelines considering the holy Ramadan and the Eid-ul-Fitr.

A series of conditions have been imposed for businesses to operate ahead of the Eid-ul-Fir.

Malls will have to install adequate hand-washing stations and provide customers with hand sanitizers at the entrance, according to a govt circular.

All vehicles entering the premises will have to be disinfected and businesses must close by 4pm, according to a govt circular.
