India gives scholarships to FF heirs

DHAKA: Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozzammel Huq Saturday handed over cheques to 30 children of Muktijoddhas (Freedom Fighters) of Dhaka region as a symbolic start of cheque distribution ceremonies for the year 2014.

High Commissioner of India Pankaj Saran was present during the ceremony.
            
The Government of India awards scholarships to the direct descendants of Muktijoddhas of Bangladesh for Undergraduate and Higher Secondary studies every year in Bangladesh.

The Scholarship scheme was started by the Government of India in 2006-2007, under which 4462 students at Higher Secondary level and 2080 students at Undergraduate level have so far been awarded with.
            
Applications from direct descendents of Bangladeshi Muktijoddhas are invited each year for the award of scholarships in the months of September/October.

Some 1364 Bangladeshi students were planned to be awarded to be awrded in 2014.
