BAU students leaving halls over arrest fear

BAU, MYMANSINGH: General students at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) are leaving dormitories fearing arrest and harassment by law enforcers. Half of the first and second year students have already taken off the campus.

Earlier, the university authorities filed a case over the killing of a final year student of fisheries faculty, also leader of Chhatra League, Saad Ibney Momtaj, with Kowali Police Station accusing unidentified people on April 2.

Fearing arrest in the killing case anytime, students have been leaving the campus as all classes and scheduled examinations will remain closed till Monday.

Following case filing, police detained two Chhatra League activists – Joni and Mithu – for quizzing and released them later.

Few times later, two others – Sujoy Kumar Kundu and Rukonuzzaman Rokon, of Ashraful Haque Hal – were arrested while running away that spread the fear of arrest among the general students.

Meanwhile, agitating students, who are seeking justice to the murder, said they would bring out a protest procession at 5:00pm Saturday on the campus and light candle on the altar of Bijoy 71 in the evening and the mass signature programme will continue.

On Monday, a group of Chhatra League activists, led-by Sujoy and Rokon, beaten Saad to injure critically.
