CHITTAGONG: Chittagong University authorities Saturday have temporarily dismissed associate professor of zoology department Dr Mohammad Habibur Rahman, also a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader.

The decision came from an emergency meeting, with university’s vice chancellor Professor Anwarul Azim Arif in the chair, after six days of Professor Habibur Rahman’s arrest with ammunitions.

Professor Anwarul Azim Arif told banglanews that Dr Habibur Rahman was dismissed, as per acts of the university, as a criminal case had been filed against him.

He will be dismissed permanently if he is proved guilty at the court, he added.

On May 12, Chittaong Kotwali Thana police nabbed 21 including Jamaat president of Chittagong University Habibur Rahman with ammunitions from their party office at Dewan Bazar of the city.

Later, a criminal case was filed against them with the thana.
