MYMENSINGH: Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) teachers Thursday called an indefinite strike protesting the dishonouring of Professor Dr Akhter Hossain, director of central laboratory.

General Secretary of Teachers’ Samity Professor Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan made the announcement in a press briefing at 11:00am.

He also demanded a formation of investigation committee and it must submit its findings within three working days.

Professor Abu Hadi also demanded exemplary punishment of those who were involved with the incident.

Meanwhile, university authority has formed a five-member committee, led by Dean of Agriculture faculty Professor Dr MA Sattar to probe into the matter.

Other members of the committee are Agricultural Engineering & Technology Faculty Dean Professor Dr Mesbauddin Ahmed, Agricultural Economics & Rural Sociology Faculty Dean Professor Dr Shankar Kumar Raha, acting president of Teachers’ Samity Dr M Solaiman Ali Fakir and assistant proctor Dr Muhammad Mahir Uddin.

On May 21, some unknown people locked the laboratory door keeping Professor Dr Akhter Hossain and an officer of Chemistry Department inside the central laboratroy with a female.

Later, teachers rescued them with the help of law enforcers.
