UGC, VCs against varsity admission scoring

DHAKA: The University Grants Commission (UGC) opined that a question can be raised if scores of SSC and HSC examinations be included with the university admission test results.

The University Society, an organization of vice-chancellors, also thinks that if exams scores are included, a section of candidates may get advantage in admission since there is an allegation of question paper leaks of HSC examinations.

UGC chairman AK Azad warned that score adding would raise question in the admission of higher education.

Question papers of some recently held HSC exams were leaked. Especially, English 2nd Paper exam of Dhaka Board was rescheduled but the rest was unchanged.

However, in the admission tests of Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Jahangirnagar University, Jagannath University and some other public universities add SSC and HSC scores multiplying with four and six points respectively.

Pointing at adding the scores, University Society president professor Md Ruhul Amin of Dinajpur Hazi Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology told banglanews that scoring is a very important issue at this time.

He would present the matter to the admission committee meeting and would suggest them to increase the number of written exams.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Rajshahi University didn’t add the SSC and HSC scores in their admissions.
