DHAKA: The first international conference on Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) has begun at Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB) in city’s Baridhara area on Saturday.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the 3-day conference titled ‘Identity in the Globalized World: Dimensions, Transformations and Challenges’ organized by the Center for Social Science Research (CSSR).

IUB vice-chancellor Professor M Omar Rahman and CSSR director Dr Zakir Hossain Raju, among others, spoke at the event.

However, Professor Willem van Schendel from the University of Amsterdam will present keynote paper titled ‘Interconnected Asia’ on the second day.

He conducted researches on Bangladesh for a substantial period of time to make the paper.

Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) and the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGCB) supported the program.
