JANHAGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY:  Jahangirnagar University authorities terminated a teacher on ground of discipline violation and suspended another for his alleged involvement in sexual harassment.

The terminated teacher was Professor Mohammad Ali Akand of Botany Department while the suspended was AKM Anisuzzaman, a lecturer of Accounting and Information System department.

The decision came at a meeting of the Syndicate, the highest authority of the university, held on Saturday night, Processor Sayed Mohhmad Kamrul Ahsan, a Syndicate member, told banglanews.

Campus sources said, Professor Akhand locked the department for three times in last several months, keeping the teachers and the students inside, to press home for his demands.

Later, five teachers, five students, and three employees of the department submitted a written compliment to the university administration.

Following the allegation, the syndicate convened an urgent meeting and formed a five-member probe committee.

On March 18, Akand was suspended temporarily following the probe committee report submission. Later, another six-member probe committee led-by JU vice-chancellor Farzana Islam was formed for further investigation.

As the probe committee submitted the report, Akand was found guilty and the authorities terminated him from the job on Saturday.

On the other hand, Anisuzzaman was suspended following the report of primary probe committee on the sexual harassment allegation.

Another committee has been formed for further investigation, and it was asked to submit the report within a month.
