Probe body on BCL-cop clash at IU

IU (KUSHTIA): The authorities of Islamic University (IU), Kushtia, on Monday formed an investigation committee following a clash between police and BCL men on the campus on Sunday.

Professor Dr TN Lokman Hakim from Department of Islamic History & Culture of the university will lead the five-member committee.

The probe committee was asked to submit its report within 15 days.

The decision came from an emergency meeting on Monday morning.

Other members of the committee are Dr Saidur Rahman from Bangla Department, Dr Shamsul Aam from Applied Chemistry & Chemical Technology, Dr Iqbal Hossain from Da’wah & Islamic Studies Department and Dr M Yeaqub Ali from Al Quran and Islamic Studies Department.

Earlier on Sunday (August 24), at least 20 people were injured as police and BCL men locked in a clash on the campus.

Of the injured, five sustained bullet injuries and four members of proctorial body were also attacked during the clash.

The injured were admitted to Kushtia and Jhenidah Sadar Hospitals.

The IU authorities decided to keep the university closed till September 7 following the clash.

The syndicate also ordered the students to check out of their dormitories within 12:00 pm Monday to avert any unwanted situation.

The academic activities of the varsity w resume on September 8.
