36 held for cheating in DU admission

DHAKA UNIVERSITY: At least 36 persons have been detained for cheating in the admission test of 'Gha' unit of Dhaka University on Friday.

Sources said that amongst the detainees, 17 were caught by duty teachers while they were copying from books or other resources in the examination hall and rest 19 were directly held by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from different examination centres in and outside of DU campus.

RAB said that the persons who were detained by them were both students and their helper. Between 19, seven students were writing inside the hall while the rest 12 were supplying answers them from outside, according to them.

On the other hand, the 17 who were handed over by the teachers are now in Shahbagh Thana police custody. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajul Islam informed that the university authorities are going to file cases against them.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, DU proctor Amzad Ali said that the admission seekers were caught for cheating during the DU entry examination.

However, a total of 105,516 admission seekers appeared for the exam under the Faculty Social Science to battle for 1,416 seats on Friday.

The tests were held in 96 centers across the city alongside DU campus.
