Nahid Blames DU Admission Test System

DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday categorically said the process of Dhaka University admission test is faulty.

The education mister came up with the observation while talking to journalists at his secretariat office on Sunday in response to a query over two students’ in DU English Department.

He said, “It is not possible to evaluate the merits of the students, who had passed SSC and HSC examinations of 40 hours, with some Multiple Choice Questions. “The process of Dhaka University is faulty,” he said.

Nahid asked the journalists saying that do you think only two students have merits to be allowed for admission in the English department.

The DU authorities made mandatory to answer elective English part in the admission test in its ‘Kha’ unit. Only two students were able to get required numbers to be admitted in the department.

As the incident created wide-spread criticism, Nahid opined, the autonomous public universities should be more responsible and to make a way-out system by themselves.

However, the Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Chittagong University and Jahangirnagar University follow their own systems in their respective admission tests.

To a question of the possibilities of any change in the rules of the universities, the minister said that the rules would be amended if needed.

“But, I do not say to change the rules right now,” he said.

According to him, they (DU authorities) will consider the situation in protecting the students from danger.
