DHAKA: Several hundreds of school teachers started hunger strike in front of the National Press Club of the city on Sunday seeking listing of their institutions under the government’s Monthly Payment Order (MPO) programme.

The protesting teachers alleged that government appointed them on condition of enlisting in MPO two years after joining the service. Though 16 more months have already been passed they are yet to enlist in MPO.

For this reason, about three hundred teachers are living in miseries, they claimed.

Earlier on September 24, teachers submitted a memorandum to Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid to press home their demand.

The minister told the teachers that fund crisis causes delay of MPO enlistment.
