IU students leave halls amid blockade

KUSHTIA: Authorities of Islamic University (IU) on Saturday closed the university for an indefinite period due to unavoidable reason.

The authorities also asked students to leave halls within 10:00am following a decision that was opted in an emergency meeting with Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr Abdul Hakim Sarker in the chair.

Students suffered a lot due to the order of university authorities as the blockade, enforced by BNP-led 20-party, is still continuing.

Students, though started leaving the halls, expressed their disgust over the decision.

VC Professor Dr Abdul Hakim Sarker told banglanews that they stopped the academic activities fearing the security of the students might be hampered due to blockade.

Sources said Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists chanted slogans and tried to enter the university through its main entrance on Wednesday and Thursday.

During the time, police threw teargas shells to them.

Later, the administration held a meeting in this regard and come out with the decision of closing the institution for an indefinite period.
