JU teacher gets UGC award-2013

DHAKA: Jahangirnagar University (JU) Professor Dr Tapan Kumar Saha got University Grants Commission Award-2013 for his research on Physics.

The JU authorities issued a press release in this regard on Monday.
 
JU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam congratulated Dr Tapan, also the proctor of the university, for the award, the release said.

Tapan got the award for his research titled ‘Efficient Oxidative Degradation of Azo Dyes by a Water-Soluble Manganese Porphyrin Catalyst’, which was published in a German Journal.

Born in 1966 at Ichakhali village in Jhenidah district, Dr Tapan completed his honors in 1987 and masters in 1988 from JU on Chemistry.

Later, Dr Tapan achieved a PhD on ‘the formation mechanism of high-valent oxo-iron porphyrins induced by the reduction/oxidation of iron (III)-porphyrin’ from Japan’s Okayama University in 2002.

He joined at JU in 1993 and promoted to professor in 2007. He also has got fellowship on several foreign universities.
