RAJSHAHI: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student affiliate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on Thursday called an indefinite strike at Rajshahi University (RU) demanding quick release of Kamrul Hasan, general secretary of its university unit.

However, JCD also sought level playing field for all the student organizations on the campus, resuming Rajshahi University Central Student’s Union (RUCSU), punishment of RU teacher AKM Shafiul Islam’s killer, more tighter security on the campus area and improved diet and residential halls, said a press release, sent on Thursday night.

RU JCD unit president Imtiaz Ahmed, in the press release, said that the strike will be observed form Saturday.

On the other hand, detective branch (DB) of police held JCD leader Kamrul from his home, located at Meherchandi Karaitala area, earlier in the evening.

He has been detained following threatening the university pro-vice-chancellor (VC) over mobile phone to stop classes and examinations.
