Students boycott class to protest increased fees

DHAKA: Over a thousand students of 2009-10 session of Jagannath University Tuesday deserted classes to protest increase of semester fees.

They demanded withdrawal of the fees immediately.

The students of the 5th batch alleged that they had paid for two semesters while admission and now the authorities once again asked them to deposit fees for the semester they paid for.

"After completion of the first semester, we were asked to get admission for the second semester and pay the fees again which we deposited earlier," said one of the demonstrating students.

The authorities through a notice asked students of faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Business, and Sciences to pay Tk 1685, Tk 1885 and Tk 1935 respectively.

The 5th batch students rallied on the campus and boycotted classes until their demand is met.
