PM asks students to be prepared

DHAKA:  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday asked students to be prepared to build Bangladesh ‘Sonar Bangla’.

Expressing hope that Bangladeshi children will prove their talent at home and abroad with qualification, she said, “It is our goal to build a developed Bangladesh. With limited resources, we can build it as planned way.”

The Prime Minister came up with the urges while distributing scholarship among degree level students provided from the Prime Minister's Education Trust at a program at her office.

She asked all concerned to ensure enrollment of each and every child in the school, to take steps to keep children’s attention in study and reduce the drop-out rate.

Besides, the PM also urged politicians to refrain from such acts that create any impediment on the way of educational development.

A total of 1,74,446 students, including 1,58,487 female, have been given  scholarship this year. The Prime Minister handed over cheques of scholarship to several degree and equivalent level students.

Highlighting the importance on education, Sheikh Hasina said, “Education is the most vital in our life. We want to build poverty free Bangladesh.  It is not possible to build poverty-free Bangladesh without education.”

Sheikh Hasina said adding in the next budget the government would allocate more money to raise the capital of the Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust fund.

PM's Education Assistance Trust has been established with a seed money of Taka 1000 crore.

The trust provided Tk 72.95 crore among 1,29.810 female students in 2012-13 fiscal while a total of 1,74,446 students, including 15,957 male, got stipend.

 A total of Taka 2245.65 crore financial assistances were distributed among 1,33,7000 students from 2009-10 to 2012-13 fiscal years.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presided over the function.
