Nahid urges varsity teachers to avoid strike

DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday requested the university teachers not to go on a strike.

The minister made this request while talking to journalists after an accord signing ceremony at LGED Building in city’s Agargaon area.

Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project (SEQAEP) director signed the accord with upazila secondary education officials on the day.

Nahid said, “We honor teachers. We have raised your payment along with other government officers. Moreover, we have formed a committee as the teachers are considering this pay-rise as disrespectful.”

“I am requesting the university teachers not to go on a strike before any meeting of the committee,” he added.

He also said that government is sincere about the matter.

The minister hoped that everything can be solved through discussion.

SEQAEP director Dr Mohammad Mahmudul Haque chaired the program, attended by Bishwa Sahitya Kendra president Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Department of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education (DSHE) director general Professor Fahima Khatun and other high-ups.

The SEQAEP project is designed to enhance the quality of education at the secondary education level in Bangladesh by facilitating access to information through quality teaching materials and audio-visual demo of classes to teachers and students.

The goal is to bring the entire project upazilas into internet accessibility to facilitate the performance of various activities of SEQAEP.
